Emma Richardson

Associate Director, Turner & Townsend

I have five years’ experience of programme and project management prior to ten years within facilities management.

I have worked for Turner & Townsend for 2.5 years, having started a few days before the pandemic. In this time, I led the project to reopen our UK offices post-pandemic and have also worked on various commissions including three financial institutions and a central government department to deliver programme and PMO services.

Prior to this I worked for CBRE as a Project Supervisor at the Natural History Museum in London whereby I supervised M&E projects back of house and supported the project managers to deliver the projects in line with all required governance.

Before working for CBRE, I had worked for Apple, as the Project Coordinator for special projects in EMEA. This needed a lot of attention to detail to ensure that reports, contracts, RFPs, gateway funding reviews and programme schedules (amongst other things!) were completed to the standard of which Apple expects.

However, my career began with Balfour Beatty, as a graduate management trainee, working in Haden Building Management (their FM division). This enabled me to learn about the built environment, working in roles such as supply chain, marketing and procurement before settling in an operations-based role. Here, I would learn technical skills that enabled me to earn the position of Compliance Manager in a significant portfolio of central government buildings. Being so involved with M&E assets positively impacted my journey as I moved into other roles throughout my career. It was a desire to move sideways from FM to project management that inspired me to apply for the job with Apple, and from thereon I have grown into Programme Management, and my journey continue to be rewarding.
