Marianne is Head of UK Real Estate Construction at Clifford Chance named as a leading individual in Chambers Directory and Legal 500 specialising in large development projects with a London focus. Marianne has over 25 years experience advising developers, occupiers and funders on construction law in the UK and internationally. Marianne was featured in The Lawyer Hot 100 List 2020 and was named as a Thomson Reuters Stand Out Lawyer 2022. Marianne has been at Clifford Chance all of her career and was one of the first ever lawyers in the firm to be allowed to work flexibly from home (before Covid!) and part time in order to balance child care responsibilities. Marianne is frequently still the “only female in the room” on construction development projects and is keen to help other women to progress in this rewarding and fascinating sector, particularly those with young children.
Marianne enjoys recording vlog interviews with clients on Linked In (https://youtu.be/TFIGjh4ZyHg; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HP6cuI6YO3Y) and finds the business development side of her work very rewarding. Marianne also loves running presentations for clients or colleagues on construction topics. Outside work, when not looking after her teenage sons (or watching her husband play the guitar in his rock band), Marianne enjoys the opera, playing the piano and singing in a choir. She was recently elected to the committee of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Trust Eye Charity where she will be advising on the construction of their new Oriel eye hospital in London. Marianne is passionate about sustainability and biodiversity loss and recently led the reintroduction of endangered water voles to her native Berkshire with charity Wild Cookham as part of rewilding project.
