Simone Young

Partner at Thorntons Law LLP Scotland

Simone is a Partner at Thorntons Law LLP, one of Scotland’s largest full-service legal firms, specialising in construction law.

When Simone initially embarked upon her legal training at Glasgow University she had visions of becoming a commercial litigator but a chance involvement in a construction project early on in her legal career ultimately led to her changing course and following a non-contentious construction contracts path.

As a result Simone has practised in the construction sector for practically all of her time in the law, and has over 25 years of experience in the field. She regularly advises clients on complex, high-value transactions in both the public and private sectors, involving building and engineering contracts, appointment agreements, development and funding agreements. She very much enjoys the diverse nature of the projects that she has been involved with over the years, which helps to keep the job interesting and throws up new issues and challenges from time to time.  Some of the more interesting and well known developments Simone has been involved with over the years include the recently completed Lost Shore Surf Resort, Scotland’s first inland artificial surf park, Murrayfield Stadium, the Scottish Parliament building and a space satellite rocket launch site in Shetland.

Simone is ranked as a Leading Partner for Construction in the Legal 500 Scotland Guide and is also a ranked practitioner for Construction in Chambers and Partners.

Outside of the office, Simone likes to keep active and can often be found walking in the Pentland hills with her labradoodle Harley. She also enjoys running and has been known to take part in the odd 10km or half-marathon. When not outdoors, Simone is an avid reader and enjoys spending time in the kitchen trying out new recipes.
